Who are the Friends of the Libraries?
The Whatcom County Library System is supported by property taxes. However, Washington State law restricts how tax money can be spent. The system relies on Whatcom County Library Foundation and Friends of the Library to gather funds for many special library projects, like a free book presented to every baby born in Whatcom County.
Friends and Foundation supporters are unpaid volunteers. Sales of used books donated to the library are one of the mainstays of support.
